Fue fundada en octubre de 1948, en el marco de una conferencia internacional celebrada en Fontainebleau ( Francia ). Tiene su sede en Gland ( Suiza ).
La UICN (La Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza) es una Unión de Miembros formada por organizaciones gubernamentales y de la sociedad civil. Juntos, trabajamos para promover el desarrollo sostenible y crear un mundo justo que valora y conserva la naturaleza.
The IUCN Red List is a critical indicator of the health of the world’s biodiversity. Far more than a list of species and their status, it is a powerful tool to inform and catalyze action for biodiversity conservation and policy change, critical to protecting the natural resources we need to survive.
IUCN is considered one of the most influential conservation organisations and, together with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), is seen as a driving force behind the rise of the influence of environmental organisations at the UN and around the world.
Under the new partnership, WWF and IUCN will: Expand the number of protected areas reaching IUCN Green List quality standards to at least 1,000 protected areas in 50 countries, by ensuring that these areas meet the Green List criteria;
