Sir John Vincent Hurt CBE, (22 January 1940 - 25 January 2017) was an English character actor and Academy Award-nominee, who portrayed Garrick Ollivander in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and returned to the same role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2..

In the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), he played Mr Ollivander, the wand-maker. He returned for the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , though his scenes in that film were cut.
