Margrethe II (Danish: [mɑˈkʁeˀtə]; Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid, born 16 April 1940) is a member of the Danish royal family who reigned as Queen of Denmark from 14 January 1972 until her abdication on 14 January 2024.

Margrethe Alexandrine Þorhildur Ingrid, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II was born on 16 April 1940 at Amalienborg as the daughter of Frederik IX (d. 1972) and Queen Ingrid, born Princess of Sweden (d. 2000). Queen Margrethe’s motto was "God’s help, the love of The People, Denmark’s strength".
