The Padua Prediction Score was developed to estimate risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized medical patients. In the derivation study, 1180 patients were followed for up to 90 days after admission to monitor for the development of VTE.
The RAM adopted in this study (the Padua Prediction Score) was empirically generated by integrating the Kucher smodel [20] with additional items and by slightly modifying the assigned scores in order to permit identification of all those conditions for which the latest international guidelines strongly recommend thromboprophylaxis [4,5].
