Dr. Lorre is a scientist who is a parody and homage to character actor Peter Lorre.
His first appearance as the mad scientist archetype in Looney Tunes was in the 1946 short "Hair-Raising Hare", which was then followed by a second mad scientist role in the 1947 short "Birth of a Notion".
Dr. Lorre resembles a diminutive version of Peter Lorre in every respect, often portrayed with all the same stereotypical "creepy" mannerisms Lorre would adopt for his most iconic, unnerving and disturbed characters. Dr. Lorre is always depicted with either yellow or pale skin and is far shorter than any other character he appears alongside. His primary attire usually consists of a mad scientist outfit with red gloves, although he may wear a formal suit or red bathrobe depending on the nature of the short, such as dressing up as a train engineer for his Tiny Toon Adventures appearance.
Like Peter Lorre's most iconic creepy characters, Dr. Lorre is a highly disturbed and psychotic little man who enjoys tormenting others and performing insane experiments. He is also highly self-conscious and a very depressed individual, often lamenting his lonely life and questioning why people always run away from him while completely disregarding the fact that his own amoral actions are what drives people away, much like Peter Lorre's psychotic character in the 1940 film Stranger on the Third Floor.
