Robert Morrison, FRS (5 January 1782 – 1 August 1834), was an Anglo-Scottish Protestant missionary to Portuguese Macao, Qing-era Guangdong, and Dutch Malacca, who was also a pioneering sinologist, lexicographer, and translator considered the "Father of Anglo-Chinese Literature".

Robert Morrison (born Jan. 5, 1782, Buller’s Green, Northumberland, Eng.—died Aug. 1, 1834, Canton, China) was a Presbyterian minister, translator, and the London Missionary Society’s first missionary to China; he is considered the father of Protestant mission work there.

As the London Missionary Society's first missionary to China, Robert Morrison is regarded as the father of Protestant mission work there. He became an important influence in the modernization of China, and helped to build a cultural understanding between the East and the West.
Morrison, Robert (1782-1834) | History of Missiology. Pioneer Protestant missionary to China. Morrison was born in Buller’s Green, Morpeth, Northumberland, England, and grew up at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Following a rudimentary education, he was apprenticed to his father as a last and boot-tree maker. He joined the Presbyterian Church in 1798.
