  1. Spreader grafts are commonly placed preventively in rhinoplasty procedures, such as nasal hump reduction, and for the treatment of nasal obstruction. Placement of spreader grafts is a relatively simple task and has been the preferred method of internal nasal valve reconstruction since the 1980s.

Reduction of dorsal hump can cause major aesthetic and functional complications if not supported properly; accordingly, surgeons have recently paid much more attention to nasal valve structure and preservation of nasal patency.1,2 Insufficient support of the nasal mid-vault can cause significant consequences such as open roof deformity, inverted-V ...

    Study Selection

Figure 1 shows the PRISMA flow diagram for the study selection process at different stages. A total 356 papers were obtained through the first search. After the removal of 23 duplicate papers, 333 remained for which title and abstract were assessed for eligibility. A total 309 papers were irrelevant to our article. The full text of the 14 remaining articles was retrieved. Of those, 4 papers2,10-12 were excluded for the reasons described in Table 2. Finally, 10 papers remained that were includ...

    Study Characteristics

The characteristics of included materials are shown in Table 3. PRISMA 2020 flow diagram was used for study selection. Ten studies were included. A total of 567 cases were enrolled in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The mean age of patients was 27.7 years (range, 18-65 years), although 1 paper did not specify mean and/or age range.14 A total 240 cases were male and 327 were female. The mean follow-up time was 8.7 months (range, 1 month to 2.4 years). One paper did not specifically r...

    Rhinomanometry

Four papers are reported on the rhinomanometry.16,17,20,23 A considerable heterogeneity of 52.4% was found at first. The exclusion of 1 group sufficed to decrease heterogeneity to 0.0%.17 The overall analysis showed no statistically significant difference in rhinomanometric results of the 2 groups (P = 0.430) (SMD [Hedges’ g]: 0.073, 95% CI [−0.10 to 0.25]) (Figure 2). In terms of publication bias, the funnel plots were symmetric, and Egger’s and Begg’s tests provided no evidence of substanti...

To our knowledge, this article is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the aesthetic and functional outcomes of spreader graft and autospreader flap in patients undergoing rhinoplasty. Our review indicated that currently there is not sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis that in case of appropriately selected patient...

Evaluation of the articles’ findings indicated that in the case of appropriately selected patients, there is no statistically significant difference between spreader graft and spreader flap techniques in terms of aesthetic and functional outcomes. However, depending on the patients’ conditions and demands, they are not easily interchangeable in all...

  2. Spreader grafts typically are contoured in a rectangular shape and measure 1-3 mm in thickness by 4-6 mm in width by 20-35 mm in length, depending on the individual's nasal anatomy....

  3. 19 de nov. de 2011 · Abstract. The value of spreader grafts in rhinoplasty cannot be underestimated. Various studies have demonstrated that they play a valuable role in the restoration of nasal dorsum aesthetics, provide support for the nasal valve and maintain the straightened position of the corrected deviated cartilaginous septal dorsum.

  4. 20 de abr. de 2020 · Spreader grafts are harvested pieces of cartilage placed between the upper lateral cartilage and dorsal septum. In functional nasal valve surgery or cosmetic rhinoplasty placement of these grafts can be accomplished in an endonasal submucosal pocket created between the dorsal septum and the upper lateral cartilage.

  5. A complete nasal examination must be performed to diagnose patients who require spreader graft placement. Patients should be examined before and after application of topical 1% phenylephrine...

  6. 2 de jun. de 2021 · Spreader Graft Placement: An Effective Procedure for Alleviation of Internal Nasal Valve Collapse. Purpose. The internal nasal valve (INV) is one of the most commonly involved areas in patients with nasal obstruction, and surgeries such as turbinate reduction and septal recontouring affect the physiology of the nasal valve area.
