  1. Tongue biting (TB) may occur both in seizures and in psychogenic non-epileptic events (PNEEs). We undertook a systematic review to determine sensitivity, specificity, and likelihood ratios (LR) of TB. Five studies (222 epilepsy patients and 181 subjects with PNEEs) were included.

  3. 14 de feb. de 2019 · Oral biting is a common complication in the epilepsy monitoring unit. Its presence suggests a tonic or clonic component but is of no help in localizing seizure onset. Keywords. Oral laceration.

  4. Tongue biting had a sensitivity of 24% and a specificity of 99% for the diagnosis of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Lateral tongue biting was 100% specific to grand mal seizures. Conclusion: Tongue biting, particularly if it is lateral, is highly specific to generalized tonic-clonic seizures.

  7. 5 de feb. de 2013 · Tongue biting was identified in 14/157 (8.9%) patients with epilepsy during at least one epileptic seizure episode. The site of TB was: bilateral ( n = 3); unilateral right or left ( n = 4), right unilateral ( n = 5); left unilateral ( n = 2).
