The spider is the key determinant of the torque rating of each jaw coupling. It also can make a significant difference in the coupling’s response to vibration, temperature, chemicals, misalignment, high RPM, space limitations and ease of installation or removal.
Spiders are designed to be the wear element of the coupling making replacement cost effective and simple while restoring full performance abilities to the coupling. Also known as Lovejoy® couplings, these three-piece couplings have a spider-shaped cushion between two hubs to reduce shock and handle minor shaft misalignment. A complete coupling consists of two hubs and one spider, or two hubs, one split spider, and one retaining ring (all components sold separately).
The Curved Jaw coupling consists of two standard hubs and one elastomeric spider. Elastomeric spiders are offered in four different shore hardnesses: 80 Shore A (Blue) - offering good dampening properties
