Lacantunia enigmatica ZBK occurs in the Ríos Lacantún and Lacanjá, tributaries of Río Usumacinta basin, Chiapas, México, inhabiting deep (to 18 m) river channels and pools with rocks and strong eddy currents. Few specimens were taken in stream mouths. Specimens were collected in both high and low water seasons, and generally during the night.
