Hace 1 día · On January 31, 1891, a republican-led uprising broke out in the city of Porto and “A Portuguesa” was chosen by the rebels as their marching song against the monarchy. The rebellion was crushed, and the song subsequently banned, however, it was not forgotten. By 1910, the nation was still not over their resentment towards the British ultimatum.
