Meißen o Meissen (conocida antiguamente en español como Misnia, del latín Misena) es una ciudad alemana en el estado federado de Sajonia. Está situada a orillas del río Elba cerca de Dresde y tiene una población de más de 25.000 habitantes.
La porcelana de Meissen (en alemán Meißner Porzellan) es la primera porcelana producida en Europa, tras los resultados conseguidos en 1708 por Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus. Con la muerte prematura de este, Johann Friedrich Böttger continuó su trabajo, por lo que a menudo es considerado erróneamente responsable de su invención.
Meissen (in German orthography: Meißen, IPA:), is a town of approximately 30,000 about 25 km (16 mi) northwest of Dresden on both banks of the Elbe river in the Free State of Saxony, in eastern Germany. Meissen is the home of Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Frauenkirche.
Meissen is a small town on the Elbe river downstream from Dresden which is world-famous for its production of porcelain. It is also known as "the cradle of Saxony" as it was from here that the Wettin dynasty established control of the area that later became the Free State of Saxony.
