Melcombe Regis is an area of Weymouth in Dorset, England. Situated on the north shore of Weymouth Harbour and originally part of the waste of Radipole, [clarification needed] it seems only to have developed as a significant settlement and seaport in the 13th century.

The main shopping centre in the area is in Melcombe Regis, consisting of two pedestrianised streets (St. Thomas's and St. Mary's Street), shops along the esplanade, and a new precinct stretching from St. Thomas's Street to the harbourside, built in the 1990s.
Melcombe Regis is considered to be one of the ports through which the Black Death entered the country in 1348. The harbour, which they shared uneasily, was at the centre of the economic life of both towns, and from earliest times they quarreled over it.

Hace 3 días · The town of Melcombe Regis on the N. side of the harbour may be of more recent origin than Weymouth, but it received a charter in 1280 and, being on a level site, was free to expand at the expense of its neighbour.
