El monasterio de Batalha es uno de los más importantes monasterios góticos de Portugal. Requirió los esfuerzos de casi quince arquitectos ( Mestre das Obras da Batalha ), pero para siete de ellos el título no fue nada más que un honor otorgado temporalmente.
The Monastery of Batalha (Portuguese: Mosteiro da Batalha) is a Dominican convent in the municipality of Batalha, historical Beira Litoral province, in the Centro of Portugal.
Constructed in fulfilment of a vow by King João to commemorate the victory over the Castilians at Aljubarrota (15 August 1385), the Dominican Monastery of Batalha, in the centre of Portugal, is one of the masterpieces of Gothic art.

The Monastery of Batalha is such a distinct and well preserved representation of the crossing of influences and irrefutable technical, architectonic and artistic brilliance, that it is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, as a proof of the creative genius of Humanity.
The town was founded by King D. João I of Portugal, jointly with the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória na Batalha (a World Heritage Site), to pay homage to the Portuguese victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota (August 14, 1385) that put an end to the 1383–1385 Crisis.
