The second creation came in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1827 in favour of the Honourable F. J. Robinson. He was a great-great-grandson of the first Duke of Kent. In 1833 he was further honoured when he was made Earl of Ripon. For further history of this creation, see Marquess of Ripon.
Robinson was given a peerage in January 1827, becoming Viscount Goderich. A month later, Liverpool resigned. Canning replaced him and he asked Goderich to become Leader of the House of Lords and War and Colonial Secretary.
F. J. Robinson was Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1823 and 1827, and he served briefly as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between August 1827 and January 1828. In 1827 he was elevated to the Peerage of the United Kingdom as Viscount Goderich, of Nocton in the County of Lincoln.
