  3. 22 de nov. de 2023 · Sitter in 7 portraits. Charles Talbot, Duke of Shrewsbury served five successive monarchs as a politician and diplomat. Brought up a Catholic, he converted to Anglicanism in 1679 and played an important part in establishing William of Orange as King in 1688.

  4. Charles Talbot was the first son of Francis, 11th Earl of Shrewsbury (c.1623–1668) and his second wife Anna Maria (1642–1702). He was the first godchild of Charles II following the Restoration and, on the death on his parents, he succeeded to the Earldom. He was placed under the guardianship of Sir John Talbot of Lacock, amongst others.
