The demography of Germany is monitored by the Statistisches Bundesamt (Federal Statistical Office of Germany). According to the most recent data, Germany's population is 84,607,016 (30 September 2023) making it the most populous country in the European Union and the nineteenth-most populous country in the world.
Germany's population grew by 1.3% (+1,122,000 people) in 2022, after a small increase of only 0.1% in the previous year (+82,000 people). A good 84.4 million people were living in Germany at the end of 2022, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

11 December 2023. The 2022 Census was conducted to determine how many people there are in Germany and how they live and work. A household survey covering about 10% of the population was carried out in 2022 to determine the size of the population and to collect information on labour force participation and education, for example.
