Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine (Irene Luise Marie Anne; 11 July 1866 – 11 November 1953), later Princess Henry of Prussia, was the third child and third daughter of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom and Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine.

Following her husband’s death in 1929, Irene continued to live at Hemmelmark. More losses would come in the following years. Her brother Ernie died in 1937, followed just weeks later by the horrific plane crash which took the lives of Ernie’s widow, his elder son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons.
29 de jul. de 2020 · Throughout this time, Alice nursed her children, but despite her loving care, four-year-old Marie died on 16 November. Irene’s father also became ill, but he recovered, as did her elder sister Victoria.

30 de jul. de 2020 · She died, after a long and excruciating deathbed, on 5 August 1901. In 1904, in an eerily similar situation of the death of her brother Friedrich, Irene’s three-year-old son Henry fell from a chair and hit his head. He died of a brain haemorrhage shortly afterwards.
