19 de may. de 2024 · James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray (c. 1531 – 23 January 1570) was a member of the (House of Stewart) as the illegitimate son of King (James V) of Scotland. At times a supporter of his half-sister ( Mary, Queen of Scots ), he was the ( regent of Scotland ) for his half-nephew, the infant King ( James VI ), from 1567 until his assassination in 1570.

Hace 2 días · Mary's marriage to a leading Catholic precipitated Mary's half-brother, the Earl of Moray, to join with other Protestant lords, including Lords Argyll and Glencairn, in open rebellion. Mary set out from Edinburgh on 26 August 1565 to confront them. On the 30th, Moray entered Edinburgh but left soon afterwards, having failed to take the castle.
21 de may. de 2024 · Later by agreement, her daughter Margaret became sole owner of the property. As she was married to the 4th Earl of Moray, the house became known as Moray House. Its connection with the Moray family lasted for 200 years until Francis, 10th Earl of Moray finally sold it in 1845. Its name, however, still lives on.
