The location of the library building is not certain. Since the 19th century excavations, it has generally been identified with an annex of the northern stoa of the sanctuary of Athena in the Upper Citadel, which was built by Eumenes II. [58]

Nilsson suggested that Hera is mainly the "Argeiē" (Ἀργείη), a name given by Homer [50] which describes her not as Greek, but as an Argive goddess. She is the protector of the citadel. [51]
