  2. 19 de may. de 2024 · In 1560 Queen Elizabeth granted the manor for life to Anne Seymour, duchess of Somerset and widow of Protector Somerset, for £13 6s. 8d. a year and payment of the bailiffs and steward's wages. In 1570 Anne and her second husband, Francis Newdigate, were successfully prosecuted for failing to pay any rent for 10 years.

Philip II of Spain gave Mary I of England a bracelet of 57 little pomander beads. Later Lady Anne Clifford owned this scented bracelet and wore it under her stomacher.

  5. Hace 5 días · In 1487 Anne Neville, countess of Warwick, conveyed the manor to Henry VII and in 1536 it was granted to Edward Seymour, later duke of Somerset. Thereafter it descended with the Somerset and Hertford titles until the death in 1692 of Sarah Hare, duchess of Somerset, under whose will it became the principal endowment of the Broad Town Trust.

  6. Hace 4 días · In 1602 the manor was settled on the earl (d. 1621) and his third wife Frances, later duchess of Richmond and Lennox (d. 1639). William Seymour, duke of Somerset (d. 1660), grandson and heir of Edward, gave his three daughters Frances (d. 1681), Mary (d. 1673), and Jane (d. 1679) an interest in the manor, possibly in 1653.
