3 de jul. de 2024 · Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Baronet (25 January 1770 – 23 January 1844) was an English reformist politician, the son of Francis Burdett and his wife Eleanor, daughter of William Jones of Ramsbury manor, Wiltshire, and grandson of Sir Robert Burdett, Bart. From 1820 until his death he lived at 25 St James's Place.

Hace 7 horas · During the tenure of the Burdetts, Stebbing Shaw (1762-1802), topographer, was tutor there to the politician Sir Francis Burdett, Bt. (1770- 1844). (fn. 19) In 1791 the house was bought by Henry Beaufoy (d. 1795), who improved it and whose brother sold it in 1795 to Mrs. Maria FitzHerbert (1756-1837), (fn. 20) morganatic wife of the prince of Wales.
4 de jul. de 2024 · Burdett was an MP for Boroughsbridge who first entered parliament in 1796. He was closely linked with political reformers and was popular for his radical beliefs. Unlike his more liberal peers, however, Burdett only wanted male suffrage for householders – those owning property – separating him from campaigners like Henry Hunt, who fought for universal suffrage.
