Hace 5 días · The number of Gaelic speakers increased by 12,000 to almost 70,000, a jump of 21 per cent since 2011. Around 130,000 people now claim to have some skills in the language, up by 43,000.
22 de may. de 2024 · The 2022 Scottish Social Attitudes survey has found that the proportion of people who 'can speak a word or two' of Gaelic has doubled in the last ten years (2012–22), from 15% to 30%. Though these statistics draw from a much narrower respondent pool than the census, they indicate an upward trend in support for the Gaelic language.
16 de may. de 2024 · The funding scheme was established to foster communication and collaboration between the language communities of Scottish and Irish Gaelic. Applications can be made for up to £12,500 of funding to support projects which will bring Gaelic and Irish speakers together, and also for Gaelic speakers looking to undertake an Irish course.

They have been the object of revivals and now each has several hundred second-language speakers. Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic form the Goidelic languages, while Welsh, Cornish and Breton are Brittonic.

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to bring investment in the Gaelic language to sustainable levels by increasing Bòrd na Gàidhlig's annual budget to at least £8.5 million and increase funding in line with inflation each year.
17 de may. de 2024 · Scottish Gaelic literature refers to literary works composed in the Scottish Gaelic language, which is, like Irish and Manx, a member of the Goidelic branch of Celtic languages. Gaelic literature was also composed in Gàidhealtachd communities throughout the global Scottish diaspora where the language has been and is still spoken.
