In the 18th century its exterior was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style, with the addition of six domes, while the interior was kept in the Byzantine style, with its magnificent 12th-century mosaics and frescoes.

His oldest son, Sviatopolk, resented Vladimir's decision to pass over him in the succession in favor of the younger brothers. Sviatopolk had the two killed. He was in turn overthrown by Prince Yaroslav.
