Gwladus Ddu. Died: 1251. Father: Llywelyn Fawr ap Iorwerth, Prince of Gwynedd. Mother: Joan of England. (Some sources place Tangwystyl Goch as Gwladus' mother but recent work by Douglas Richardson has convinced me that Gwladus was Llywelyn and Joan's legitimate daughter. Such a connection could only have benefited Ralph when it came to arranging marriage. Hugh Mortimer’s brother Reginald de Braose’s widow was the Welsh princess Gladys Ddu, or “the Dark Eyed” from the house of Gwynedd, whose step son William had also married Eva the daughter of William Marshal.

Gwladus Ddu, ("Gwladus the Dark"), full name Gwladus ferch Llywelyn (died 1251) was a Welsh noblewoman who was a daughter of Llywelyn the Great of Gwynedd and married two Marcher lords. Sources differ as to whether Gwladus was Llywelyn's legitimate daughter by his wife Joan or an illegitimate daughter by Tangwystl Goch.

Philip ap Elidir Ddû was born in 1320, in Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales as the son of Sir Elidyr Ddû and Cecil ferch Sitsyllt. He married Gwladus Verch Dafydd Frax in 1357, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. They were the parents of at least 5 sons. He died in 1425, in his hometown, at the age of 105.
