Oliver was also the first "castaway" on Desert Island Discs, the long running BBC Radio 4 program. He was married to Winston Chruchill's daughter Sarah, until their divorce in 1945. Following his cremation at Golders Green, Vic Oliver's ashes were scattered in Section 4-H of the Lawns of Remembrance.

Victor Oliver von Samek, known as Vic Oliver, was an Austrian-born British actor and radio comedian.
Sarah Churchill was educated at Notting Hill High School in London. She was later send to a boarding in Kent, the North Foreland Lodge. In 1936, the 22-year-old Sarah angered her parents by marrying without their permission. Her new husband was Vic Oliver (1898-1964), a well known actor and comedian of Austrian-Jewish descent.
The very first broadcast of Desert Island Discs was recorded at the bomb-damaged Maida Vale studios, London, on 27 January 1942. Plomley's guest was Vic Oliver.
