Frederick Louis, prince of Wales (born Jan. 6, 1707, Hannover, Hanover—died March 20, 1751, London) was the prince of Wales, eldest son of King George II of Great Britain (reigned 1727–60) and father of King George III (reigned 1760–1820); his bitter quarrel with his father helped bring about the downfall of the King’s prime minister, Sir Robert Walpole, in 1742.

Upon Queen Anne’s death, Frederick’s grandfather George, ruler of the Duchy and Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover) in the Holy Roman Empire, became King George I of Great Britain. George’s son, the future King George II of Great Britain , was created Prince of Wales and along with his wife Caroline of Ansbach , now the Princess of Wales, went to live in Great Britain.
