Backed by the horn-driven sound of The New Power Generation, he filled this heady concept album with brassy bursts of big-band jazz, hard-driving funk workouts and nods to the fierce swing of early ‘90s hip-hop.

Although he did not return again to the Sausalito studio, Prince hired Record Plant’s LA facility briefly during 1991 to record Race for Come and do the mixing for Carmen Electra. Kirsty Ally recorded her segues for Love Symbol Album here in 1992, and in 1993 Record Plant Los Angeles featured in skits in two segues on the NPG’s first solo project GoldNigga .

The first half of the Europe leg of the Diamonds And Pearls Tour was supported by Prince’s rap/dance act Carmen Electra , until her 20-minute slot was pulled in London on 20 June due to a dispute over payment.
