Israel’s demography is explored, from the kibbutzim to the Arab minorities, the orthodox Jews, and the tourists.

1960. Duration. 60 min. language. English. Pioneer of the essay film style, enigmatic French auteur Chris Marker ( La Jetee, Sans Soleil) visited Israel in the late 1950s. Turning his camera on the fledgling state, the resulting documentary Description of a Struggle won the Golden Bear at the 1961 Berlin Festival, but has rarely been seen since.
16 de sept. de 2020 · Not that the creative fulfillment Kafka hoped for would have made for a happy life. As a writer, he would still be left with loneliness and exclusion. An early piece, the delicate prose-poem “An unhappy bachelor,” movingly foresees the realities of a solitary life. Marriage and family were in his eyes an ideal fulfillment, just not for him.
After the Six Day War radically changed the course of Israel and the entire Middle East, Marker withdrew Description of a Struggle, and it has remained largely unavailable until the recent restoration by the Jerusalem Film Archive.
