The Richard Donner cut is a 2006 re-edited director's cut of the 1980 superhero film Superman II. It is a sequel to Richard Donner's 1978 film Superman, based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name, and stars Gene Hackman, Christopher Reeve, and Marlon Brando.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is a fascinating curio. It elevates Superman II into a much more well-rounded, meaningful movie. Though it should be noted that, similar to Zack Snyder's Justice League, this isn't the movie that would have been released if Richard Donner had his way in 1980.
History []. In 1977, director Richard Donner set about simultaneously filming an epic two-part adaptation of the Superman comic book series. With approximately 70% of Superman II made and after significantly going over budget and over schedule on both movies, filming on Superman II was suspended in October 1977 so that Donner could focus on completing the first film, Superman.
