Quo vadis este titlul unui roman istoric scris de Henryk Sienkiewicz, pentru care, în 1905, i s-a decernat Premiul Nobel. A fost publicat pentru prima oară în Gazeta Polska , începând cu luna martie 1895 .
Quo vadis jest powieścią ponadczasową ze względu na swoje przesłanie. Powieść ta opowiada bowiem nie tylko historię rodzącego się zwycięstwa chrześcijaństwa nad pogaństwem, ale przede wszystkim miłości, braterstwa, skromności, miłosierdzia nad rozpustą, egoizmem i pychą.
Quo vadis er en historisk roman af den polske forfatter Henryk Sienkiewicz udgivet i 1896. Titlen er latin og betyder Hvor går du hen? Den hentyder til Det Nye Testamente , Johannesevangeliet kapitel 13, vers 36 [1] og legenden om apostlen Peter , der på flugt fra Rom i et syn ser Jesus og spørger ham: ” Quo vadis, Domine ?” (Hvor går du hen, Herre?).
Unfortunately, Quo Vadis was written in the 19th century, and Sienkiewicz knew very well that just as Nero was torturing Christians in his book, so did Christians torture, maim and kill countless people in the times of the Crusades, the Inquisition and the witch hunts, even up to our times, and not to even mention issues such as molestation, abortion, and so on.
Quo vadis” – rodzaj i gatunek literacki. Istnieje narracja, czyli przedstawienie wydarzeń przez narratora, i jest ona prowadzona w trzeciej osobie (trzecioosobowa). Narrator w utworze jest wszechwiedzący, co oznacza, że zna wszystkie wydarzenia oraz myśli i uczucia poszczególnych bohaterów.
