She essentially lived the life of a court damoiselle in the Queen’s household, except of course she was privileged and honored as a princess of the blood. Once an adolescent, discussion of her marriage began.
Mary of York was the second daughter of King Edward IV of England and his queen consort Elizabeth Woodville. She spent her early years in close connection with her older sister Elizabeth of York. Raised and educated together, the princesses were accustomed to frequent relocations between royal residences and participated in court festivities and state visits.
The birth of Mary's first child, Catherine Laura, named after Queen Catherine, on 10 January 1675 OS represented the beginning of a string of children that would die in infancy.
