George Henry Sanders was born on July 3, 1906 to British parents in Saint Petersburg Russia. He had a glittering childhood and enjoyed all the privileges of his high-class life. But this utopic lifestyle was doomed. In 1917, the Russian Revolution turned his world upside down. Young Sanders had his first taste of reality—and it was brutal.
After 1955, Sanders began to appear regularly on episodic television and, in 1957, he hosted "The George Sanders Mystery Theatre," which ran for 13 episodes on NBC before its cancellation. In 1958, he released a novelty album of standards on the ABE-Paramount Records label titled The George Sanders Touch: Songs for the Lovely Lady .
A series of historical pieces followed, and late in the decade he hosted a television series, The George Sanders Mystery Theater. In 1960, he also published an autobiography, Memoirs of a Professional Cad. Sanders spent virtually all of the 1960s appearing in little-seen, low-budget foreign productions.
