Elizabeth Claypole (née Cromwell) (1629-1658), Daughter of Oliver Cromwell. Sitter associated with 7 portraits The second daughter of Oliver Cromwell, and his favourite child, Elizabeth Claypole is supposed to have exercised a moderating influence on him. She married John Claypole, a leading Parliamentarian in 1646.

11 de ene. de 2022 · CLAYPOOLE or CLAYPOLE, ELIZABETH (1629–1658), second daughter of Oliver Cromwell, was born on 2 July 1629 (Noble). Her marriage to John Claypoole [q. v.] took place in 1646. She was the favourite daughter of her father, to whom her spiritual condition seems to have caused some anxiety.
Like her elder sister Bridget, we know almost nothing about the life of Elizabeth Cromwell (born 1629), the second of the Cromwells’ four daughters, until her marriage at Ely in 1646 to John Claypole. During the Protectorate, Claypole became Master of the Horse and he and his wife held apartments at Whitehall and Hampton Court.
Sir Henry’s second son was Robert Cromwell, who married Elizabeth Steward around 1590. The couple had ten children, three boys and seven girls. Only one of the boys survived infancy – Oliver Cromwell, who was born in Huntingdon on 25 th April 1599. We know relatively little about Oliver’s early life.
