That stint allowed her to hone her skills, develop her vocal style, and give her the confidence to return to New York to develop her career as a singer.

The Flamingo, at 33 Wardour Street in Soho, was a dodgy basement nightspot that on the weekends remained open until 6 a.m. On the bright side, the club was known for its sterling sound system.
