Later in adulthood, Murdoch decided to use his maternal grandfather’s first name as his second name. His first wife, Patricia Booker, was three years older, having been born in 1928, while Murdoch was born in 1931.
Murdoch, Elisabeth. Elisabeth Murdoch was born in Melbourne in 1909, the third daughter of merchant, Rupert Greene and his wife, Marie. After completing her private school education she married newspaper proprietor Keith Murdoch in 1928. The couple had three daughters and a son, the international media proprietor, Rupert Murdoch.

Patrick Murdoch was a son of the manse and followed his father into the church. Young Murdoch had a good start in life, graduating with an MA from the great and ancient University of Aberdeen.
