Arthur Hughes, né le 27 janvier 1831 à Londres et mort le 23 décembre 1915 à Kew, est un peintre et illustrateur anglais associé au mouvement préraphaélique . Ses deux œuvres les plus connues sont Amour d'avril et The Long Engagement. Il a aussi peint une Ophelia - comme John Everett Millais, qu’il imite.
Em 1855, Hughes casou-se com Tryphena Foord, seu modelo para April Love. Eles tiveram cinco filhos, dos quais um, Arthur Foord Hughes, [ 4 ] também se tornou pintor. Hughes morreu em Kew Green, Londres, em 1915, [ 5 ] deixando cerca de 700 pinturas e desenhos conhecidos, além de mais de 750 ilustrações de livros.
