  3. Lord Charles Oliver Edward FitzRoy (13 July 1923 – 6 August 1944), killed in action; unmarried. A year after his first wife's death, he married, secondly, Lucy Eleanor Barnes (25 December 1897 – 11 September 1943), daughter of Sir George Stapylton Barnes and of his wife, Sybil de Gournay Buxton. The ceremony took place on 6 October 1924.

  4. Grandson of the 2nd duke, Charles Fitzroy (1683–1757), and great-grandson of the 1st, he was educated at Westminster School and Peterhouse, Cambridge. He was secretary of state in 1765 under the Marquess of Rockingham but retired the following year. William Pitt formed a ministry in which Grafton was first lord of the Treasury (1766).
