James Andrew Broun-Ramsay was born on April 22, 1812 at Dalhousie Castle in Scotland. He was the third and youngest son of George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie and of his wife Christian née Broun of Colstoun. Education He was educated at Harrow and Christ Church College. Career
