Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld (Désirée Elisabeth Sibylla; born 2 June 1938) is a member of the Swedish royal family. She is the third child of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and an elder sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf .

Bernadotte, born in the town of Pau, in the province of Béarn, France, had risen to the rank of general during the French Revolution. In 1798, he married Désirée Clary, whose sister was married to Joseph, Napoleon's elder brother. In 1804, Napoleon promoted Bernadotte to a Marshal of France.
Bernardine Eugénie Désirée Clary was a real person, and the novel Désirée by Annemarie Selinko is based on actual events in her life. Although the book varies from known facts in several places, and obviously much of it is the author's invention, Désirée really was engaged to Napoleon Bonaparte, married to Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, and crowned Queen Desideria of Sweden.
Her last work Désirée (1951) was about Désirée Clary, one of Napoleon's lovers and, later, a queen of Sweden. It has been translated into 25 languages and in 1956 was turned into a movie with Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons. It is dedicated to her sister Liselotte, who was murdered by the Nazis.
