His Highness Carl Michael Borwin Alexander Georg Friedrich Franz Hubertus Maria, Duke of Mecklenburg, Prince of Wenden, Schwerin and Ratzeburg, Count of Schwerin, Lord of the Lands of Rostock and Stargard was born on 30 January 1994 in Freiburg-im-breisgau. Duke Georg died at his home in Sigmaringen in 1963, being succeeded as head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz by his elder son Duke Georg Alexander (1921-1996). After German reunification Duke Georg Alexander returned to Mecklenburg in 1991 becoming the first Mecklenburg duke to reside in the state since 1945 and took up residence on the Mirow Palace Island.
Duke Georg Alexander was born during his parents visit to Mecklenburg for the 80th birthday celebrations of his grandfather Grand Duke Georg. His christening into the Lutheran Church took place at Remplin on 10 July 1859. Amongst his godparents were Grand Duke Georg, Emperor Aleksandr II of Russia and Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich of Russia.

Georg died on 6 July 1963 in Sigmaringen aged 63. He was interred alongside his first wife in the family vault in Inzigkofen, Sigmaringen. Georg’s elder son Georg Alexander succeeded as head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His widow Charlotte survived him by twenty six years dying on 23 July 1989 at the age of 68.
