John Balliol was picked as king, only for Edward to humiliate and dethrone him a short time later. Marjorie’s father, Robert the Bruce, was one of the chief claimants of the Scots crown.

On 27 March 1306, her father was crowned King of Scots at Scone, Perthshire, and Marjorie, then 10 years old, became a Princess of Scotland.
