  4. David Wilkie nació el 18 de noviembre de 1785, en Fife, concejo de Escocia, Reino Unido. En 1799, tras asistir a la escuela en Pitlessie, Kingskettle y Cupar, a través de la influencia del conde de Leven, fue admitido en la Trustees' Academy de Edimburgo.
