Caspar David Friedrich (ur. 5 września 1774 w Greifswaldzie, zm. 7 maja 1840 w Dreźnie) – niemiecki malarz, uznawany za jednego z najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli malarstwa romantycznego [1] . Studiował w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Kopenhadze i Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Dreźnie. Podróżował na Rugię i w Karkonosze.

He is best known for his mid-period allegorical landscapes, which typically feature contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees or Gothic ruins.
