He appears nine times in contemporary documents between 1036 [1] and 1059, [2] however always only as Graf ( comes Hesicho ). Only in the 13th century is he called Esicus de Ballenstide by the Annalista Saxo. [3]
According to Wikipedia: Esico of Ballenstedt (died around 1060)[1] is the progenitor of the House of Ascania, (i.e., the oldest known member of his dynasty).
