    On 10 July 1943, 1st Canadian Infantry Division landed in Sicily as part of the British 8 th Army. The Patricia’s were re-indoctrinated to war at Leonforte, the Regiment’s first Battle Honour of the Second World War. Following the capture of Sicily by the Allies, the Regiment landed on Italy’s toe on 4 September 1943.

On the 3rd August 1914, the day before war was declared, Mr Andrew Hamilton Gault of Montreal arrived in Ottawa and went to the Canadian Ministry of Militia and Defence. He met Sam Hughes, the Minister and put to him his proposal for the raising of a unit to send over to Europe.
