He was associated with the queen's favourite, Walter Devereux, Earl of Essex, in most of his successes, and married the earl's sister, Penelope Devereux, in 1580, which led to much unhappiness as she was in love with Sir Philip Sidney. It was to her that Sidney's sonnets 'Astrophel and Stella' were addressed.

  4. 20 de may. de 2024 · This is described in the Hustings Rolls in 1555 as having been acquired by Robert Southwell from Sir Walter Devereux, Lord Ferrers. Devereux was created Viscount Hereford in 1550, and was succeeded by his grandson, Walter, created first Earl of Essex in 1572.

Hace 5 días · Walter Devereux, who, after this marriage with the Ferrers heiress, became Devereux de Ferrers or Lord de Ferrers, was slain at Bosworth Field in 1485 with Richard III, when he was succeeded by his son John (d. 1501), whose son and heir Walter, as Walter Devereux Lord Ferrers, was dealing in 1512–13 with Weston, Southoe and other manors.

Pat. 1494–1509, p. 386) and received the fee until his death in 1528. There is no record of any subsequent payment to Sir Walter Devereux. 71.

  7. Hace 6 días · Walter Devereux was summoned to Parliament as Lord Ferrers, by right of his wife, from 1461 to 1483. He was slain fighting for Richard III at Bosworth in 1485. (fn. 90) John Lord Ferrers, his son by Anne, died in 1501, leaving a son and heir Walter, (fn. 91) who in 1542 with Richard his son and heir conveyed the estate to John Latton (fn. 92) of Chilton, who thus acquired the two manors.
