He lived in poor circumstances, but associated with many well-known authors of his time. In addition to his work for the theatre, he became best known as a translator of Homer. In 1598 he continued writing Marlowe’s Hero and Leander.

In the six surviving editions of Ovid’s Elegies , likely produced between 1600 and 1640, Marlowe’s translation was always printed with the epigrams of John Davis, distinguishing between the two authors, who had no connection whatsoever.

Apart from an unflattering remark about Richard Harvey mentioned by Nashe in 1596 in Have With You To Saffron-Walden, Or, Gabriell Harveys hunt is up, Marlowe is unlikely to have intervened in the quarrel.

  4. 23 de may. de 2024 · Henslowe Diary. Philip Henslowe’s diary is considered one of the most important contemporary sources of information on Elizabethan theatre. The book measures 33.66 x 20.32 centimetres and contained 242 pages today. It originally belonged to John Henslowe, who used it as an account book for his timber and mining business in Ashdown Forest.

Under his rule, the Ottomans won Cyprus but lost the naval battle of Lepanto. Selim II received the nickname "the drunkard", which he fully lived up to when he slipped in the bath, drunk as a skunk, and fractured his skull.
