Phase 1, about 494 miles (795 km) long, is planned to run from San Francisco to Los Angeles and Anaheim via the Central Valley, and is partially funded and under construction.

Built in 1912, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. It is currently home to an 80 unit condo complex on the top 11 floors, and the restaurant Bottega Louie sits on the 1st floor.
