In November 1664 he was appointed to the Privy Council of Ireland, and on 5 October 1668, he succeeded his father as the second Baronet. He was created Viscount Lanesborough in the Peerage of Ireland on 31 July 1676. He was Secretary of State (Ireland) from 1665 until his death.

31 de may. de 2024 · Hill Manor remained in the possession of the Byng family, belonging in 1762 to George Viscount Torrington, grandson of Sir George Byng, who in that year suffered recovery, but by 1824 it had passed to Robert third Lord Ongley, owner of Old Warden Park, after which its identity as a manor has not been preserved, though its name survives to the present day in Hill Farm.
